It has been traditional for the first post made to a blog to express the author’s intentions, hopes, and reasons for beginning one. Whatever I may call this, which if my intent is borne out will grow to be a collection of writing, it shares enough characteristics with blogs to adhere to the same convention. So:
Self-centered reasons. Writing original text is a hubristic endeavour.
There is not a single specific impetus for this; I don’t have a unitary message I want to get out there. There are many individual things I’d like to write, and I would also like to be the sort of person who in fact writes them.
Humans are no longer the only entities that can write in human languages. Current AI is not very good at the craft of writing, and its output can typically be detected, but maybe that will not be true forever. Maybe I am motivated to start actually writing now in particular because of some sense of impending threat.
Really, though, I think I have at least abstractly wanted to write since before any of that happened, and so this is me doing that.
As such:
Everything here is and will be written by me, the named author at the top, excepting quotations, which will be marked and delimited according to convention. (If I at some point write with a coauthor, they will also be named at the top of the relevant pages.) I will not ask artificial intelligence to edit my writing or provide advice. That would entirely defeat the purpose.
Rather than describe myself, I hope that my writing will stand as an expression of me. There is also a home page.
I hope things I write will be read by people who find them interesting.
I am interested in, and will write about: • systems of various sorts (computer, legal), • language (interesting grammatical features, etymology, learning Japanese), • fiction (novels, Japanese animation, hypertext media, and so forth), and probably other things.
